Our Mission

The Fine U Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located in Trussville, AL. Fine U was founded by me, Kaitlyn Hughes,  out of my  love for the special needs community. I  spent two years as a Peer Partner at Hewitt Trussville High school, which is where I  met many people who inspired me and taught me how to find joy in every aspect of life. Being a Peer Partner gave me friendships that I would not exchange for anything, and showed me how much the simple things in life matter. I was originally inspired to begin Fine U when my aunt who was born with Down Syndrome, Jennifer Renaud, passed away in December of 2020. The name Fine U comes from Jennifer, who would always respond “Fine you?” when asked how she was doing. No matter how her day was going or what was happening in the world around her, Jennifer was always radiating joy. Jennifer, along with Peer Partners, is where I developed my desire to help the special needs community in any way possible, because they are who taught me to appreciate every moment in life. As such, the Fine U Foundation is committed to providing financial resources to special needs individuals and their families by helping to offset medical expenses, as well as bring our communities closer together.
